Cairn Gorm - 08 March

The weather forecast remained unpleasant for the plateau and conditions underfoot were, probably, about perfect for skiing and very difficult for walking. The plan was to reach the plateau via Crag an Leth-chon but the powder snow was too deep to walk at any pace so we headed more directly to Cairn Lochan.

Well before the plateau we were above the cloud base with poor visibility and drifting in and out of complete white-outs over Cairn Lochan. Thereafter visibility improved slightly and the ferocious wind started to ease in the early afternoon. We had Cairn Gorm summit to ourselves although the ski slopes below had plenty of traffic.
