Shira Camp Two - 29 December 2015

This is first day of the proper "Kilimanjaro Experience" - hot sunshine, views of the high slopes and porters whizzing by with impossibly heavy loads as we plod along. The other part of the "Kilimanjaro Experience" which turned out to be pure pleasure was the wonderful food. This is private trip, organised by Rob, using Trekili Eco Expeditions who supply guides, porters, cooks, tents and the local transport. The support team was fantastic - always encouraging, always accommodating and great fun to be with. Jeff (or Geoff?), the cook, was brilliant and always prepared more good, fresh food than we could cope with.

This is a straightforward 3 hour trek to Shira Two camp - so straightforward that Rob, Adrian, Jill and Greg head off, with a couple of guides, to bag another couple of peaks on the way. Duane, Richard, Pauline and I prefer to make our way directly to Shira Two camp.

For the first time we also experience the typical weather - clear and bright morning and evening with clouds building in the late morning. These may bring rain or snow but will slowly clear away as darkness falls.
