Teenager With Altitude – 20 April

This is the start of what makes all the winter’s training worthwhile – the first of the long Lakeland fell races, the “Teenager With Altitude”. This is an extended version of the “Anniversary Waltz” that celebrates Wynn and Steve’s wedding and this year was the 17th Waltz and the 4th Teenager. 16 miles and 7000 feet over the North Western Fells but almost all the climbing is crammed into the first 12 miles and there are a couple of big descents that are as demanding as any of the climbs. All in all a brilliant day out on the fells, in good weather and yesterday the conditions were about perfect.

I need to get some proper running done this year instead of just running between photographs so there are fewer taken during the race than usual. This also seems to mean that, while I finished with a quicker time than the last two years, my legs hurt even more than the last two years – or so it seems.

Pauline was marshalling on High Spy and has some photos here.

Huge thanks to Steve, Wynn and everyone else who helps make this wonderful pair of races happen.
