With a bright blue sky above and an equally bright blue sea below we took the Corran ferry to Ardgour on our way to Strontian and a couple of Corbetts above the lead mines.
Sgurr Dhomhnuil took almost three hours to reach over rough pathless ground but the views were worth every minute of the struggle. To the west Skye, Rhum, Mull and a number of smaller islands could be seen. To the east Ben Nevis and the nearby ridges with the snow covered Cairngorms clear in the far distance. To both north and south, just endless hills as far as the eye could see and beyond – what a place to play.

Originally and somewhat optimistically we planned to visit both Corbetts (Sgurr Dhomhnuil & Beinn na h-Umamha) and the two Grahams (Sgurr a Chorainn & Sgurr na Laire) but by the time reached Beinn na h-Umamha doubts were creeping in and once on Sgurr a Chorainn we decided the 6 mile walk out would be enough.

By late in the afternoon the clouds were beginning to build, getting ready for the overnight rain, but this was a very special day on some remote hills, one that will remain long in our memory.
Stunning photography as always!
ReplyDeleteNo plans to go up Ben Nevis?
Stuart - we went up Ben Nevis at the end of May 2000, in a blizzard! Later this year (4th September) I plan to run the Ben Nevis hill race.
